The Poetry of Untold

My eyes always watered at this very thought,

But I was determined this time, and left.

But, dear!

I wished to see you for the last time,

And like my many other wishes,

It wasn’t fulfilled.

Turning the doorknob,

Your face came to my mind,

With its usual careless smile.

But, dear!

The things I decided will snatch your smile,

And there’s no way to undo what’s done.

You’ll come to my house with a feeling that you’ll be forgiven,

‘Cause you’ll think erroneously that you know me the best

And will merely expect a trifle argument

Which will be settled with an easy move.

But, dear!

This time, you’ll get nothing you expect,

‘Cause you’ll find yourself in my house 

Without me.

And you’ll be looking for me,

Here and there, repenting for being so late –

But, dear!

Repentance is meant for those who never felt the need to express their love.

It’s meant for people like you.

I wasn’t happy with the decision,

But you remained indifferent for so long,

Forgetting every essential truths.

Now the time has come for you to realise the pain of being forgotten,

And a bonus of being unforgiven.

But, dear!

I choose to leave my dearest possession in charge of you.

My reading room, my bookshelf,

With the hope that you’ll need them,

To remember me.

Read them, if you still wish to know an unimportant person like me.

And after everything has got its end,

Let’s start from the beginning.

Let’s go back.

As if we never met, 

And will never meet ever.

Never thought I would publish poetry on this blog. But then I thought, why not? I had written a lot of poems since a long time, but only one or two of them were publicized. One big reason was that, I wasn’t, and am still not confident about the worth of my writings. In general blog posts, I share information or reviews, that made me think harder whether to publish this poem or to let it be lost inside the pages of my diaries.
